Ask anyone about surfing in Morocco and the name Taghazout comes up almost immediately — it put this coastline on the map for international surfers decades ago. But just a few minutes south, the fishing village of Tamraght has quietly become the base of choice for many surf camps, including ours. So which one should you pick for your trip?
Taghazout: The Original Surf Town
Taghazout is busier, more built-up and geared heavily toward tourism, with a dense strip of surf shops, cafes and guesthouses right by the water. It sits closest to the region's most famous point breaks, including Anchor Point, so if your main goal is to surf that exact wave every morning, it is hard to beat the location.
The trade-off is crowds — both in the water and on the streets — especially during peak season from October to February.
Tamraght: Laid-Back and Local
Tamraght has a slower pace, a strong local community, and a more authentic Moroccan village feel, while still being close enough to reach every major break in the area within a 10–20 minute drive. It has its own quality beach breaks right on the doorstep, which are especially good for beginners, plus easy access to Banana Point, Devil's Rock and the Taghazout breaks when conditions call for it.

Our Recommendation
If your priority is nightlife, a busy surf-town atmosphere, and being a two-minute walk from a famous point break, Taghazout is a great fit. If you would rather wake up somewhere quieter, practice yoga on a rooftop, eat home-cooked tagine with a local family, and still be minutes from every wave in the area, Tamraght is the better choice.
