One of the best things about surfing in Morocco is that there is no real "off season" — the Atlantic coast around Taghazout and Tamraght produces rideable waves 365 days a year. That said, the type of wave, the crowd, the wind and the water temperature change a lot depending on when you visit, so picking the right month can make a big difference to your trip.
Autumn and Winter (September – February): Prime Swell Season
This is peak surf season in Morocco. Consistent groundswells roll in from the North Atlantic, producing clean, powerful point breaks and reef breaks that light up spots like Anchor Point, Boilers and Killer Point. Wind is generally offshore in the mornings, and the water sits around 18–20°C, so a 3/2mm wetsuit is enough.
This is the best window for intermediate to advanced surfers who want longer rides and more powerful waves. It is also our busiest period at the camp, so if you want a specific package or room type, it is worth booking early.
Spring (March – May): The Sweet Spot for Beginners and Improvers
Spring is a fantastic time to learn to surf in Morocco. Swell is still consistent but generally smaller and more forgiving, the crowds thin out compared to peak winter months, and the weather is warm without the summer heat. This is exactly why we run dedicated camps every month from March through May — the beach breaks around Tamraght, like Devil's Rock and Banana Point, offer soft, rolling waves that are ideal for first-time surfers.
- March: Building spring swells, fewer crowds, mild air temperature
- April: Reliable waist-to-head-high waves, great for progressing past the basics
- May: Warmer water, longer days, still uncrowded outside of the main breaks
Summer (June – August): Small Waves, Big Fun
Summer brings smaller, gentler swells generated by local wind conditions rather than long-period groundswells. Combined with warm water (22–24°C) and long sunny days, this makes summer the easiest and most relaxed time to learn. It is also a great season for surf-and-yoga combinations, since sessions are shorter and less physically demanding, leaving more energy for exploring, relaxing on the beach or practicing yoga in the evening.
So, When Should You Book?
If you are chasing bigger, more powerful waves and already have some surf experience, aim for October to February. If you are a complete beginner or want a gentler introduction, March to June is hard to beat. Whatever month you choose, our instructors adapt each session to the day's conditions, so you always surf a wave that matches your level.
