Moroccan Food for Surfers: What to Eat Before and After a Session

A practical guide to enjoying local food while keeping your energy steady on a surf trip.

Keep breakfast simple

Before an early session, aim for something light but satisfying: bread, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, oats, or a smoothie. Heavy meals can feel uncomfortable in the water, while skipping breakfast can leave you flat before the lesson even begins.

Refuel after the waves

After surfing, your body needs fluid, carbohydrates, and protein. A tagine with vegetables, couscous, grilled fish, or a hearty salad makes an ideal post-surf meal. Moroccan food is generous, colourful, and particularly good for hungry surfers.

Try local flavours slowly

Mint tea, fresh orange juice, amlou, olives, dates, and seasonal fruit are all worth trying. If you are not used to spicy food, ask for a gentle first taste of sauces and spices, then find the level you enjoy.

Make meals part of the trip

Food is not only fuel. Sitting down together after a surf day is where guests connect, compare waves, and discover more of Moroccan hospitality. Leave room in your schedule for long lunches and relaxed dinners.
