How to Read a Surf Forecast for Morocco Without Overthinking It

The four things that matter most when you are planning a surf day around Tamraght.

Look at swell size and period together

Swell height tells you how much energy is arriving, while the period tells you how organised that energy may be. A modest swell with a longer period can produce clean, powerful waves; a larger short-period swell can feel more mixed. Your coach can translate the numbers into the best spot for your level.

Wind changes the surface

Light offshore wind often helps shape clean faces, while strong onshore wind can make the sea bumpy. Do not chase perfect conditions every day: sheltered beginner beaches can still work very well when exposed breaks are windy.

Tide matters at every break

Some spots are friendlier on a rising tide, others need more water or less. There is no universal best tide for the whole coast. That is why local knowledge matters more than simply choosing the biggest number on a forecast app.

Use the forecast as a guide, not a promise

Forecasts help you prepare, but the ocean always has the final word. Check in with your instructor each morning, stay open to changing plans, and enjoy the conditions that suit your ability on the day.
